WLOK Black Film Festival is celebrating Black History Month 2023 by honoring WLOK Radio on its 46th anniversary. We will show the film “A Piece of the Action” on Friday, February 17 at the STAX museum, 926 E. McLemore Ave, Memphis, at 6:30pm. WLOK became the first black and locally owned radio station in Memphis on February 17, 1977. The film “A Piece of the Action” is also from 1977 and has music that would have been played on WLOK at that time. The actors are Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby and James Earl Jones and the soundtrack is written by Curtis Mayfield and performed by Mavis Staples. The film is directed by Sidney Poitier. The film is about two con men (Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby) are persuaded by a retired policeman (James Earl Jones) to volunteer their services to a ghetto youth center.

The film is free to the public and there will be free water and popcorn.
