Mr. Art Gilliam the President and CEO of WLOK Communications, has owned WLOK Radio, for 49 years.
You can find us on FM 105, the only black-owned FM station in Memphis, and AM 1340, the first black owned radio station in Memphis.
Mr. Art Gilliam was featured on Fox 13 as they celebrated 2026 Black History Month.

The DOWD Awards
Mr. Art Gilliam was among those who received a Dowd Award, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the National Civil Rights Museum. The Dowd Award is sponsored by WYXR Radio Station.

The award is named after Nat D. Williams, who was the first Africa-American disc jockey in Memphis, Tennessee. The award honors individuals whose artistry and leadership continue to shape the soul of Memphis, Tennessee.
